I have been taking part in an online Card Class during January called 'Clean and Simple Cardmaking'. On Day 5, the class was Watercolour Blocking using Distress Inks and Blending Tool by Jennifer McGuire - and this is my one-layer-card inspired by that class - you might need your sunglasses for this one!
To do the vibrant background, I inked up my Ranger Ink Blending Tool/foam pad with Wild Honey Distress Ink, sprayed some water using my Ranger Mini Mister onto my Craft Sheet, put the inked up Blending Tool into the water then dragged it across my 140lb watercolour paper. Using another clean foam pad, I did the same with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink, then did the Wild Honey again, and so on, and so on, until I had covered my watercolour paper. I love the way the water made the inks blend into each other to create new colours. I used a heat-gun to dry it off before stamping the images.
Using Versafine Onyx black ink, I stamped the Girl Rock Star image from my Taylored Expressions set "You're my hero" and did the same with the sentiment (note I used my Stamp Positioner to make sure they were in just the right spot). For any black bits that didn't quite stamp cleanly, I went over them with a black Bic Mark-it texta.
I used the grungy element stamp from the set to the do the 3 corners and stamped several times without re-inking then used my Ranger Tool/foam pad and the Onyx black ink to darken all the edges of the card.
Added the 2 small black Basic Grey brads each side of the sentiment, punched 2 stars from Rose Glitter Cardstock using Carl CP-1 (small star) and Carl CP-2 (large star) punches then added the black grosgrain ribbon.
I will be giving this card to my grown-up niece for her birthday which is in a couple of months time; good to get ahead!
